food, life, waiting, painting.

just speechless.
the hands i love. :)
life's been pretty good.
the weather's been whacky for this state. :P never has it been so warm and humid for so long. it's not normal for us....sheesh.
but we're learning to live with it, praying the drought will pass, and learning to be thankful in all things, for something.
i hardly ever blog anymore.
if you haven't noticed.
sometimes it's hard to have words when you're in a [obviously quiet] season of waiting and trusting.
it's hard work, but i'm ready to work hard for/with what lies ahead.
 oh! this.
i have been getting a random custom request once in a while, and just the other day i made and sold another one. :)
i love doing custom ones. people ask for all sorts of quotes. it's awesome. :)

hah...last night i made blueberry muffins for the second time in two weeks, because blueberries have been on sale and therefore not a pain in the butt to buy.
the batter was so freaking yummy. that's all i'll say..... ;) do you ever eat the batter of anything you make/bake?

sister conversations. coffee and God.

thursday, august 11 2011
6:41pm
the sun shines through the window.
like gold and amber, crystallized dust.
with that, and "home" sung as a cover by the
dad/daughter on youtube, in the present moment my
throat tightens.
pulling the bag of decaf columbian coffee towards me
without more than a single thought, i sigh.
comfort. warmth. something steady and faithful and
always satisfying. like God.
talking to God and drinking coffee.
"so...what's the problem?" lyd asks me.
she's a pretty darn sensitive child.
and a little too much like me for my own comfort.
"well, you see...once you're twenty and older, you just
kinda....get tired. and..."
pouring the coffee grounds, a nice mound into the
coffee filter, i think. and think.
"and you start to want someone. someone to hold your
hand...just...someone." i smack the coffee maker top
down and press the on button.
she nods. looks at me with fluttery eyes. "yep. i get it."
oh, what a wistful tone. where did she learn that from?
she sighs and smiles sypmathetically at me.
"it must stink to be twenty."
oh. okay. sure. i guess so. i mean, pros and cons to
every age and anything else, right?
20 isn't too bad most days.
home.
this song...just the sound of it curls up around my
heart.
i just need to curl up around His heart... and refocus
around different things after i get my pain,
loneliness and frustration out. sounds short and right.

let's see how much distraction i have to walk by
before i settle into the right place.

artistic endeavors: simply.

just a quick plug:

it's been an interesting tuesday.
i overflowed the coffee pot with water while i wrote back a friend on fb and forgot about coffee. . .
i finished everything on a surprise canvas, except for the quote. i'm waiting on a quote. it seems like it needs one.
i have read a lot of articles today; on writing, tweeting, being inspired, more writing, how blogging doesn't make much money at all even if you're good and trying hard [not my reason for blogging, lol], and a crapload of other stuff.
i'm tired of reading informative, logical stuff.
on how to be better, write better, blog better, network better . . . in fact, all of it has be strung up so much so that i've brewed coffee 3 times today. only to the 6 on the pot, but still. italian roast; mahogany from heather; more italian roast.
i've got a hankering to get my hands on fabric and needles and finish those skirts i upcycled from maxi dresses found on-sale.
so. here's to loosening up.
and photo booth sessions with 10 year old sisters who wear gram's decade-old frames with glass punched out.
my sisters are dramatic and know how to act some characters so well . . . there's nothing else to do but laugh.
so here's a slideshow of the canvas, because it's just way cooler than scrolling down for this particular canvas. :)
i painted this one june 14, 15, 27.

no words. oh, but ipod pictures. dear goodness.

gosh. these past few days....
eh, i don't have words.
today, mom, rach and i shot a wedding and reception....
i'm so done with this day.
^^ taken with my nikon earlier today...but the rest of the photos?
sorry, sister ipod time!! never again, i promise. ;)
but let me say this:
italian roast by trader joe's is wonderful stuff. and their coffee prices are amazing [compared to how our co-op's coffee prices have spiked beyond my reasoning]. and i can't wait to talk to heather soon tonight.
sigh.
i know, this is just one more on that list of everyone-using-filters-and-iphones-etcetera, but rach took this of me yesterday, while she was making me laugh and try to pose with my camera.
i told rach i was going to post this.
of the 3 pictures we took this morning after we woke up late, this was the best.
the other one, she looked a bit too insane for public viewing. ;) face screwed up in a goofy smile, looking like a gramma or something.
um.
yeah.
just sayin', i slept with my makeup on.
during the reception.
rach's ipod, once again. but no filter. ;)
crappy resolution though. :P
anyhow, you all know i'm spoiled with my nikon d3000. moving on.
rach's blingbling is the nuk of a cute little nearly-2-month-old, audrey. random child of a random lady of a random relative of the bride?
um, don't ask me how that works.
some people are like don't.freaking.touch.my.kid, and some people are like hey, you're invited to my relative's wedding? well, sure, since you asked and you look safe, you can hold my baby girl.
just speculating here.
i've had experiences with both kinds.
oh, what, you want to see the cutie?
okay.
here she is:
sadly, we'll probably never see that sweetie again.
she curled up perfectly in my arms, if you can see.

and she slept 95% of the time between 2pm-7.
i'll give you some real pictures next time.
as in, not ipod ones. nikon ones.
i'm tired.
i bet i'll sleep like a rock in the sun tonight.
speaking of which, the wedding ended up being held in the backyard of a teeny-tiny baptist chapel in a small town, and it was a sunny 80-something day today.
my left arm --the side of me that had the sun-- has a definite pink/white  short-sleeve line. :P

anyhow, good night!!
[what coffee or tea have you been drinking lately?]

i'll stick with it, thankyouverymuch.

Caleb: "You look depressed. Are you?"
Me: "No...I'm just letting this coconut stuff settle. I ate too much." Anna made coconut millet for breakfast. It's...different. Good, but different.
Caleb: "No, but you look really....depressed. You haven't had your coffee yet, have you?"
[yes, i have a scarf on. weird. and yes, i have a thing for photobooth-like photos. ;)]
Me: "Uh.....no."
End scene.
What does that tell you, besides the fact that I hadn't yet brewed any lovely dark roast to brighten my day....well, I was tired. Reading until midnight and sleeping through your alarm doesn't do you any favors. I'm trying to kick the habit.
. . . After that morning scene, I happened upon this article. About coffee, obviously. Well, more about caffeine.
No joke, I didn't search for it or anything. It just......was there.
So....point is??? I'll stick with it.
Some people who've been addicted for a while, say they're in it more for the taste than the caffeine now anyways.
I'd have to say the same.

Random:
And this is what I feel when I think about Spring showing up....
By reading the scriptures I am so renewed that all nature seems renewed around me and with me.
The sky seems to be a pure, a cooler blue,
the trees a deeper green.
The whole world is charged with the glory of God and I feel fire and music under my feet.
[Thomas Merton]

I'm off to work on that John Bible study......I swear I haven't done a single page since the beginning of December. That blasted month that seemed so busy...... Aaaaaand I'm finally getting around to doing my laundry. Running out of all sorts of necessaries.....Yay for clean clothes.
Have a lovely Wednesday!

a latte finds....and cookie ramblings. no joke.

starving artist ink.
just really very interesting and creative:)

lattes and rainy days
she's amazing. and i just cried after reading this by her. it's heartbreaking.

gregarious peach
it's darling, really. {beware: lots of cute babies!} one of her children's birth stories. just amazing.
........................
Well. I finished reading Screen Play around 1am. It was pretty good.
I'm moving on to reading Unforgotten, since I read and finished Secrets right before the Chris Coppernoll books came in from the library.
Mom's Bible study was today. Michelle came with her children, and a gift of these seriously yummy chocolate-chip, oatmeal, coconut, and I-don't-know-what-else-is-in-them cookies. We're going to call her for the recipe, and hopefully someday I'll share it on here! :)
 I've had....oh, around 5.
They're not as rich as the ones I had the other night, plus these are probably way healthier. Well, relatively. ;)
See what I mean? It was...oh, the 11th? Everyone else was watching mi-5 and I was sitting at the table on my laptop, eating these cookies, chatting with Heather.

I swear I consumed a dozen.
They were so buttery....white chocolate chippy....oatmeal....so good, in other words. :D
Isn't it weird when the sky is this color at night? I mean, weird, but cool and kind of pretty. But still. Unusual.
And, to be random, which I never ever ever am, this song by Apocalyptica  is going through my head. It's not the worst thing to be running on repeat. Heh.

...just fascinating... *shakes head*

[someplace in my house is going to look something like this...someday.]

Anyways.

Um, so if any of you ever wanted to see me and hear me blunder my way through a test video with the stress of a pudding well on its way to completion on the stove.... Um, now's your chance. :D
