a poem on a tuesday.

it's february 1st, and i haven't posted for . . . oh, has it been a week?
yeah. something like that.
one of my favorite authors, bonnie grove, shared this on her facebook this morning.
you know, since they now allow you to post more than 500 characters. hah.

anyways, the last time i --er, someone named lyddie [my littlest sister]-- used my camera, there was this cutie in the nursery. he was a sweetheart. for every smile you gave him, he gave you one right back. easiest going little one in the nursery at church that day.
. . . the sunset on january 30th.

. . . the sunset on january 31st.
you can now read this lovely poem, and i'm going to go finish watching tangled [only for the second time in my life, crazy, i know? what with a little sister who does the smolder all the time. lol] with lyddie . . . have a fabulous wednesday :)

Happiness
by Raymond Carver

So early it's still almost dark out.
I'm near the window with coffee,
and the usual early morning stuff
that passes for thought.

When I see the boy and his friend
walking up the road
to deliver the newspaper.

They wear caps and sweaters,
and one boy has a bag over his shoulder.
They are so happy
they aren't saying anything, these boys.

I think if they could, they would take
each other's arm.
It's early in the morning,
and they are doing this thing together.

They come on, slowly.
The sky is taking on light,
though the moon still hangs pale over the water.

Such beauty that for a minute
death and ambition, even love,
doesn't enter into this.

Happiness. It comes on
unexpectedly. And goes beyond, really,
any early morning talk about it.
